Duration: 1-day (8 hours)
Cost: $80
Includes 2005 First Aid & CPR Guidelines.
Meets OHS regulations for Basic First Aid.
3-year certification in Marine Basic First Aid & CPR Level C
Includes AED certification
Includes CPR Level C (CPR information is enhanced to meet specific workplace needs)
Conducted by a certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor

Overview of First Aid & CPR techniques with scenarios taken from the marine/fishing industry for individuals who need a basic training level if First Aid & CPR for the marine industry. The course skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies for Adults, CPR Level C, and other topics including choking airway and breathing emergencies, and prevention of disease transmission.

Course content:

  • Assessment of needs of casualties and threats to own safety
  • Appreciation of body structure and functions
  • Airway Emergencies
  • CPR (adult, child, infant)
  • Breathing & Circulation Emergencies
  • Understanding of immediate measures to be taken in cases of emergency, including the ability to:
    • Position casualty
    • Apply resuscitation techniques
    • Control bleeding
    • Apply appropriate measures of basic shock management
    • Apply appropriate measures in event of burns and scalds, including incidents caused by electrical current
    • Rescue and transport a casualty
    • Improvise bandages and use materials in emergency kit
  • Written exam (min. passing grade: 75%)
